I think some recognition is due the German people for successfully tranforming themselves from a highly millitaristic nation, into one with an army smaller than most third world countries. I was stationed in Germany as part of the U.S. military and lived with a German family. Their decision to demilitarized was largely driven by the determination of German women that never again would they send their sons to die in war.
